AIRlabs 2.0 – the future of innovative unmanned aviation research

AIRlabs Austria already offers test areas that are unique in Europe and provide ideal conditions for drone testing in a wide variety of environments. With a comprehensive service portfolio and ongoing expansions, AIRlabs offers both local and international partners ideal opportunities for the development, validation and integration of their technologies.

AIRlabs Austria enables advanced testing in dedicated environments. For instance, concerning control and communication systems, materials and mechatronic systems, technologies and UAVs as well as sensors and UTM systems.

AIRlabs Austria is committed to advance and promote the next phase as AIRlabs 2.0. We invite all current and future partners to join us in co-creating innovative solutions. We are certain that joint contributions are essential for the future success of the Austrian drone technology sector and economic position. We welcome every contribution and every recommendation on the way to a shared future for the UAS industry.

For the innovative continuation of the laboratory, we are focussing particularly on the main points in this article.

Test areas for a variety of requirements

AIRlabs has a wide range of test areas that are characterised by specific characteristics. These include, among others:

  • (high) alpine topography for challenging tests at high altitudes,
  • agricultural and forestry areas for applications in precision agriculture, among others,
  • industrial environments for testing drone technologies in urban or industrial areas,
  • as well as areas with high biodiversity for tests in nature and species conservation.

One distinct advantage is the high level of flexibility due to the variety of test areas. This makes it possible to carry out several tests simultaneously in different environments. This saves time and resources.

Future expansions and specialised infrastructure

Soon, AIRlabs is planning several expansions to its infrastructure, including:

  • Test areas with paved take-off and landing sides ideal for large and heavy UAVs,
  • dedicated test areas for higher risk technology evaluations to provide a controlled and safe operating environment.

In addition, hangars and meeting facilities will be integrated to enable comprehensive testing and project planning directly on site.

Light UAS Operator Certificate (LUC) and comprehensive services

AIRlabs actively supports partners in obtaining the Light UAS Operator Certificate (LUC), an important privilege for the operation of drones over long distances. AIRlabs also offers the following services:

  • Project planning and execution,
  • risk assessment,
  • flight and test planning,
  • data management and specialised consulting.

These comprehensive services ensure that every project can be carried out efficiently and purposefully.

Networking and international co-operation

Another focus of AIRlabs is on networking within the drone community. Regular newsletters, workshops and the exchange of resources promote the advancement of the industry and enable partners to benefit from the expertise and innovations of other players.

Future-orientated collaboration

AIRlabs offers its partners attractive cooperation opportunities, including

  • integration into research proposals and the opportunity to realise their own flagship demonstration projects.
  • Participation and co-organisation of the annual AIRlabs Future Conference
  • expert workshops and training courses on current and international developments.

These options and opportunities make it possible to actively shape the future of Austrian drone technology together with AIRlabs 2.0.
