Almost 500 Red Cross personnel from all over Austria and 200 participants took part in 15 different scenarios (mass panic after a lightning strike, accident with acetic acid, collision of two aircraft and much more) as part of the federal exercise in the Güssing area in Burgenland on 27 and 28 October 2023.

As part of the exercise, AIRlabs Austria carried out a BVLOS drone flight in cooperation with A1 Telekom Austria AG and the Austrian Red Cross, which was used to practise search and rescue, as well as exploring areas outside the immediate field of vision.

This enabled the rescue teams to gain an overview of the area surrounding the accident site that was not immediately visible and to clarify whether there were other people to be treated or other dangers that could not be recognised on site.

AIRlabs provided a drone equipped with 5G technology, which was specially designed and built for this exercise.

We would like to thank Franz Jelinek (Red Cross), Peter Kozar (A1), Michael Zitz (A1), Martin Resel (A1), Federal Rescue Commander Gerry Foitik (Red Cross) and Provincial Rescue Commander Hans Peter Polzer (Red Cross) for their excellent cooperation!
