State-of-the-art test rig for testing and validating vibration resistance 

Optimised development and testing of unmanned aerial systems 

At AIRlabs Austria, we offer our customers access to innovative solutions for the optimisation and testing of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). Through our co-operation partners CoLT and FACC, we can provide you with first-class testing and validation processes based on the latest technological standards. 

CoLT & AIRlabs – our project: State-of-the-art test bench 

Thanks to the collaboration with CoLT, a subsidiary of FACC, a state-of-the-art test rig was added to the AIRlabs portfolio at the CoLT site in St. Martin im Innkreis (Upper Austria). This test rig is specially designed for testing and validating the fatigue strength of 3D-printed drone components, such as load-bearing and connecting elements. The focus here is on testing materials and structures that are used in highly stressed and safety-critical elements. 

Powerful test procedures and state-of-the-art technology 

The fatigue strength test rig uses advanced digital image correlation (DIC) methods to precisely measure the deformations and stresses in the tested components. The data obtained is compared with the results of the finite element calculation (FEM), which ensures a high level of agreement and therefore reliable validation. This combination of physical tests and computer-aided simulations enables a comprehensive analysis of the vibration resistance and fatigue strength of drone components. 

Proof of Suitability through Endurance Testing 

The suitability of this newly developed test rig was successfully demonstrated in an endurance test on an exemplary titanium structure. Titanium, known for its excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance, places high demands on testing methods. The outstanding conformity between the DIC results and the FEM results confirms the accuracy and reliability of these testing methods.
